Granola Dialogue is a project created by Benjamin Shandler, a sophomore Psychological Science student at the University of Vermont. This work is the culmination of six months of independent research, combining immersive ethnographic observation, sustained conversations with students and faculty, systematic analysis of university communications and enrollment data, alongside engagement with UVM student scholarship, Vermont Cynic archives, and critical theory in cultural studies and sociology.

Reach Out

Has anything in the report resonated with our own experience at UVM?

If so, let’s connect. I’d love to hear your story—whether you just want to share what campus life has really felt like, talk through what’s working and what isn’t, or dive in and help push this project further.

If you’re fed up with being boxed out by the usual mold and looking for other people who get it, reach out. This is about building something bigger—a community for those of us who want this university to live up to the promise of belonging and are willing to call it out when it falls short.

But here’s what’s equally important: if you think I’ve gotten something fundamentally wrong, if the data doesn’t match your experience, if there’s a piece of the puzzle I’ve missed entirely—don’t hold back. Challenge it. UVM’s culture is complex, and getting it right matters more than being right.

If you’re interested, you can always email me at benjamin.shandler@uvm.edu.

Thanks for engaging with the work.
